I always thought there were two forces in this world Evil and good the lesson taught to every boy and girl But these days a dark wind keeps on snuffing out the light We’ve gone so deep into a cave it only feels like night Now there are those who will boast of the wealth they can bring But give them power and you won’t be left with anything Roads paved with good intentions demand a heavy toll Be careful which fork you take ‘cause you just might find a devil you know Chorus: The devil you know 6x Better beware of the devil you know At least with power you can see it coming for a mile For only so long can they hide volcanoes with a smile Expose the money trail and we’ll all queue at the depot All aboard that last bus to mow down the devil you know Repeat Chorus 2x

No I don’t always make the logical choice But I’ll always be true to my inner voice She asked me to list the cons versus the pros But in the end I said: “let’s see where it goes” Then she told me that I needed to get real But I won’t let her tell my heart how it should feel She asked me to let my left-brain rule As if I was back at philosophy school She said it’s as clear-cut as white or black Read me chapter and verse about winning her back But I think it’s time that the right side won It isn’t always about the sums of zeroes and ones Zeroes and ones Zeroes and ones I gotta run from zeroes and ones Zeroes and ones Zeroes and ones I can’t love someone ‘Cause of zeroes and ones So just because we’re in a binary age She said it should be easy to just flip the page From where I stand can’t be turning back She can’t derail me from my track I think I need to go with the setting sun No she didn’t move my heart with her zeroes and ones Zeroes and ones Zeroes and ones I gotta run from zeroes and ones Zeroes and ones Zeroes and ones I can’t love someone ‘Cause of zeroes and ones Zeroes and ones Zeroes and ones I gotta run from those zeroes and ones Zeroes and ones Zeroes and ones I can’t love someone ‘Cause of zeroes and ones No I can’t love someone ‘Cause of zeroes and ones No I can’t love someone

Watershed 04:03
I didn’t hear the coins splash in the well The river rapids had no song to tell The only waves were those inside my head Until the flow came from my watershed My mind could see the battle lines divide Tides started shifting to the other side Those thoughts would make my heart feel damn near dead Until the flow came from my watershed Water so cool and so clear Wash away all those tears Shed for things that I can’t control Be the one thing that consoles Watershed refill my soul I know that I must keep watch and renew Return the hard rains that are always due So in that calmness I can always tread I need a moment with my watershed Water so wide and so deep Promise me that this will keep My river full, submerge the shoal Be the one thing that consoles Watershed refill my soul So in that calmness I can always tread I need a moment (I need a moment) with my watershed One simple moment (one simple moment) with my watershed (with my watershed) Then the flow came from my watershed Then the flow came from my watershed

You’re all bright and shiny creating something new Allowed to think it’s other worlds revolving around you But basking in your own glow is bound to make you blind To who is reaching out to you from a parallel time I once burned so brightly I felt I was a sun Dark matter did propel me to shine second to no one Can my rays still light the way as you make your climb Where other stars circle brighter stars in parallel times Seems no matter what I do on distant lines we stay Even within arm’s reach you’re a million miles away Can’t see how our paths will intersect or intertwine When our destinies are trapped in parallel times Am I behind or ahead of you, I can’t really tell I guess that happens since our orbits move in parallel Am I being naïve to pretend That space and time might someday bend But I won’t tell you just yet what I foresee somehow The distance shrinks between us to a fraction of right now Perhaps our lives will be reborn in a space sublime Where two stars can exist again in unparalleled times

The sun god who created you should not have been surprised When you became an epic muse right before his eyes He tried to keep you as his protégé, guarded you like an egg from Fabergé But Kalliope emerged you were on your way Oh Kalli I wish you’d always come to me You always make me seek a higher key You’d make my song sound richer with your sweet sweet air But Kalli Kalli I know I shouldn’t dare And then the many came to seek out your ecstatic harmony You helped them to begin their own odyssey Your wisdom and assertiveness are balanced with such eloquence The sweet notes you give to all have no pretense Oh Kalli I wish you’d always come to me You always make me seek a higher key You’d make my song sound richer with your sweet sweet air But Kalli Kalli I know I shouldn’t dare Kalliope, oooo Kalliope, oooo Kalliope, oooo, ahhh 2x

And so it began We were so full of hope We’d strike a grand bargain Friends thought we would cope With how the sands might shift Nothing stood in our way But you began to drift And all you could think to say It is what it is False promises made Did not hear my voice Since debts must be paid Could not approve my choice Could not afford to care Just had to have your way You did not want to share And all you could think to say It is what it is It is what it is Am I guilty of cowardice If I forget you exist It is what it is Took chance after chance To make it all right Missed dance after dance On night after night I’ve seen this film before Still ends the same way You walk out the door And all you can think to say It is what it is It is what it is So much for our state of bliss Now I can’t see past the abyss It is what it is It is what it is I thought there’d be more than this (more than this) Now I must forget you exist It is what it is It is what it is It is what it is It is what it is It is what it is

Looking at once emerald fields and such wide open space Spotted now with brown has left great hunger in its place I know I must fly south away Will we meet again one day I hope they have a pub or two on Bright Street ‘cross the terracotta rooftops lies a turquoise sea Once bountiful but now so bare, that just shouldn’t be I know I must sail west away Will we dance again one day I hope they have a dance club there on Bright Street Tried to pull the silver from a snowy ledged mountain I only got to change my lady’s roof from sod to tin I know I must ride east away Will we sing again one day I hope they have a music hall on Bright Street I hope they have a music hall on Bright Street Ancestors came from far away And it’s always been a joyous place to stay But I can’t see the horizon anymore And there are those who want to close the door The leaves have since turned brown and fallen from their limbs It seems the lights on Bright Street have started to grow dim I fear I must skate north away Am I to return one day It’s time I leave to seek out my new Bright Street I hope they have a pub or two on Bright Street I can see it in my mind everything will be just fine When we get to live our lives on Bright Street

True Friends 03:13
We’ve all had plenty of “friends” in air quotes Who hang with you only to “borrow” banknotes No they have no guilt in their transparency But ask them the same and just watch them flee Then there’s some friends out there on Facebook Who beg you to like them and give them a look They tweet, pose, and post, seeking out fame Their online personas just have no shame So here’s to true friends I know who you are You’d drop what you’re doin’ and come from afar You say what you mean and do what you say And I can count on you at the end of the day Now I’ve been accused of being maudlin Buy me a drink and I’ll treat ya like kin But if you break a promise, too little too late It’s gonna be hard for me not to berate You might try to pull the wool over my eyes Thinkin’ that you’ve got the best of this guy I might even let you get away with it once But trick me a second time then I’m the dunce So here’s to true friends I know who you are You’d drop what you’re doin’ and come from afar You say what you mean and do what you say And I can count on you at the end of the day So through the days I’ve just whittled it down That short list of folks whom I can count on For them I would give the shirt off my back And I trust they won’t mention my absent six-pack So here’s to true friends, I know who you are You’d drop what you’re doin’ and come from afar You say what you mean and do what you say And I can count on you at the end of the day You say what you mean and do what you say And I can count on you ‘til the end of my days

He tried hard to forget the need to roam Take the exit ramp and just head on home Owed nothing to no one except himself But he let his dreams gather dust on a shelf He vowed not to regret the road he chose Took it day by day to see where it goes But a vow to yourself can’t be a chain He had to try to be a legend again This was his last chance for glory Couldn’t let no one else script his story This was his last chance Last chance for glory Didn’t leave a note he was on his way He raced the sun, held the night at bay Could he pull it off and score that find Or be just a legend in his own mind This was his last chance for glory Couldn’t let no one else script his story This was his last chance Last chance for glory ‘Go big or go home’ he was always told But somehow his life didn’t fit that plan And when his star began to grow cold He became the invisible man Last chance for glory Couldn’t let no one else script his story He grabbed that last chance Last chance for glory (LaLaLaLaLaLaLa) Last chance for glory (LaLaLaLaLaLaLa) Last chance for glory (LaLaLaLaLaLaLa) Last chance for glory He grabbed that last chance Last chance for glory (LaLaLaLaLaLaLa) Last chance for glory (Last chance for glory) (LaLaLaLaLaLaLa) Last chance for glory (Last chance for glory) (LaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLa) Last chance for glory (Last chance for glory) He grabbed that last chance Last chance for glory

It’s said a tiger cannot change its stripes But aren’t cats supposed to have nine lives You need a way to shed your skin I know a place you could begin If you get upstaged, in danger of falling Thinking that you got to find a new calling Brace yourself take some action Create a major distraction with some New dance moves Got to find a new groove Have some fun get you some New dance moves When Jake and Nicky disappointed ‘B-Nation’ Or Texas Tommy came back from vacation The Seed of Sarah she wasn’t abstainin’ And Foxy Gerry ‘bout hoodies complainin’ They didn’t cry ‘oh woe is me’ They knew one thing would set them free, some New dance moves Got to find a new groove Have some fun get you some New dance moves You should have no shame It’s a wasted emotion No need to change your name Just start a huge commotion Like a sleight of hand Or a magical potion You can blind them all Just put those hips in motion, with some New dance moves Got to find a new grove Have some fun get you some New dance moves Got a stain to remove Have some fun get you some New dance moves New dance moves New dance moves New dance moves

about

p.j. walsh Ottawa, Ontario

p.j. walsh first felt the power of music when his cover of 'Tom Dooley' in kindergarten was abruptly ended by a nun, who realized that the 'eternal triangle' in the song was not the 'holy trinity'. He got his first guitar in 1966 and has since been in numerous cover bands. He began songwriting in the late 70's but didn't see fit to release anything until 2013. Guess he's a late bloomer! ... more
